Project: OVERPR!NT

Light Work In Heavy Industry

Editions as seditions, prints as means of counter-information, from pamphlets to samizdats, from posters to clandestine press : the history of print being one of diffusion of ideas and images, it is therefore logical that print should become the vehicle for rebellious and/or parallel ones. This is the source reflexion for OVERPR!NT: What can you say in print over, under and between the official lines?

OVERPR!NT will manifest as an international museum exhibition, involving students, staff and alumni from participating institutions in Brussels, London, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Leipzig and The Hague.

The work exhibited will explore the lines connecting print techniques with contemporary modes and technologies of communication, traversing the overlaps between subversion, propaganda, information and disinformation. In an age where political narratives and counter narratives blur into one another through social media and consumerist appropriation, how can artists frame their own messages as forms of direct address to the audience?

The three-month exhibition will also involve workshops, master classes and performances. It will aim at offering access to the widest audience possible, with a particular emphasis on creating a dialogue with the inhabitants of La Louvière.
